The Whitley County School District recently received a $150,000 Preschool Partnership Grant. KDE established this grant program between school districts and childcare providers in an effort to implement full-day, high-quality programs to serve preschool children eligible for assistance from the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP). The purpose of the funds is to increase the number of preschool children served in full-day, high quality early childhood environments. The Whitley County School System currently serves 353 preschool students in a fullfive day per week preschool program but hopes to increase that number by adding an additional 40 CCAP eligible students. Plans are currently in progress to target students for enrollment. These preschool students will receive services beginning in January 2017. The money received through the grant will be used to pay for teacher and instructional assistant salaries, student transportation, teacher trainings, curriculum materials and furniture including tables, chairs, shelving and cubbies for student use.
